Asseco Spain Group joined the event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Global Compact. The event brought together business leaders and key figures in the ESG field in Spain. The event highlighted the collective achievements of the last two decades and the transformation of the Spanish business community toward a more responsible and sustainable model.
Sustainability is not just a duty; it is the only way to guarantee the future. The event also featured key figures in the history of the UN Global Compact Spain, such as Juan de la Mota, former president of the initiative and CEO of Caixabank, the bank that held the presidency of the Spanish Network between 2012 and 2020, contributing to the advancement of our initiative in Spain. Spanish companies were pioneers in joining the UN Global Compact movement, and over the past two decades, the Spanish Network has proven to be a solid model for building a business community committed to sustainability.
Since its creation in 2004, the UN Global Compact Spain has been key in integrating sustainability as a strategic pillar in business. What began as an effort by 127 organizations has grown into a network of more than 1,800 entities actively working to align their strategies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact related to human rights, labor standards, the environment, and the fight against corruption. This number places the Spanish network among the top three national UN Global Compact networks in terms of the number of participants.
In the most demanding scenarios, companies participating in the UN Global Compact excel. To highlight just a few internationally renowned rankings, ECOVADIS, the leading independent global sustainability agency, certifies that UN Global Compact companies outperform their peers by 12 points. Furthermore, all Spanish companies listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index 2023, the global index that assesses the sustainable performance of large companies, are UN Global Compact participants.
Furthermore, 89% of the companies that make up FTSE4Good, a set of indices designed to measure ESG performance, are also participants in our initiative. These indices, among many others, reveal that engagement, participation in programs and training, and access to our services put companies at the forefront of corporate sustainability.
Asseco Spain Group is the first Spanish company in the sector to join the Spanish Global Compact Network, which represents a clear commitment to social, environmental, financial, and governance issues.
